Why is Nainital so famous?

It is also known for the revered Naina Devi temple, which stands on the edge of the lake. Nainital is not only a famous tourist destination but is also known for its prestigious educational institutions and schools, which have stood since the British era.


Nainital is an all-year destination but the weather is the best between March and June. It receives heavy snowfall in winter and turns into a white wonderland, making it a popular Christmas and New Year destination.

Construction of Maharajji's Temple at Kainchi

Babaji left His physical body in the night of 10 September 1973. The Kalash containing His ashes was already installed in Shri Kainchi dham.Then, without any plan and design the construction work of Baba’s temple began in 1974. All His devotees cooperated (voluntarily).

Neem Karoli Baba Ashram Kainchi Dham

Kainchi Dham is a Hanuman temple & Ashram which is established by a great saint Shri Neem Karoli Baba in 1960s. It’s a holy temple surrounded by hills and trees and river flowing besides it. 

You can feel the great strengths and presence of Hanuman Ji in the Ashram. This place has achieved recognition owing to the ashram of the famous Neem Karoli Baba. The scenic location adds to the beauty of the place.

Kainchi is a beautiful secluded mountain ashram located in the Kumaon Hills in Uttarakand. The first temple was inaugurated in June 1964. It is approximately 38 km from Nainital. Many hundreds of people visit the temples here every day, in season.

Rules are strictly enforced and individuals staying at the ashram are required to participate in morning and evening arati. The ashram is closed for a large portion of the year, because it becomes very cold.

Must Know Before You Travel to Nainital

  • Itinerary: 2 days are enough to explore Nainital. To visit nearby places, 1-2 additional days are required
  • Budget required for 1 day: INR 6000-7000. This includes INR 1500-2000 for hotel, INR 1000 for food, INR 2000 for local conveyance, INR 1000 for entry fees for various attractions.
  • Local Transport: Bike and scooty available on hire. Bike costs around INR 1500 per day, while scooty costs around INR 600
  • If visiting during the peak season (May-June), make prior bookings.
  • Do try the famous Bal Mithai from the local sweet shops.
  • Buy wax candles, shawls and woollens from Mall Road.
  • Budget and luxury accommodation available. Most hotels are centred around Mall Road and Bus Stand.
  • Bhowali is 11km from Nainital and is perfect if looking for homestays.
